Cleaning Your New Black Leather Handbag
So you’ve finally bought yourself a new black leather handbag. It is everything that you dreamed of: it is functional and it is the perfect accessory to most of your outfits. As a woman, a handbag is very personal and therefore, when one fits your taste, you should do everything you can to keep it in good condition. You would want your handbag to last you a very long time.
The care of your new handbag should begin immediately. While most people would want to forget, it is important to keep in mind that leather is really animal skin. Ideally, just like humans should protect their skin from the effects of the environment, you should do the same for your handbag. This involves applying leather conditioner and a spray protector once a week to your handbag. A conditioner will protect the leather from drying out and keep things nice and supple to touch. A spray protector will form a sealant on the leather and make it dirt and water resistant.
Now, truthfully, not very many people will bother to go through this ritual once a week. Dirt and scuff marks will eventually appear and that is why you need a good leather cleaner in the mix as well. You can buy commercial leather cleaners but you can also make do with a homemade leather cleaner as well. For example, for patent leather, you can use mineral oil to clean and then use diluted white vinegar to keep things shiny. Many do-it-yourselfers will attest that these homemade recipes are the best leather cleaners and you don’t have to go out of your way to buy professional brands. However, to be safe, it is always prudent to do a spot test first. After all, you wouldn’t want to ruin your new black leather handbag.
